In 2007, the government initiated a very good program of converting the use of kerosene into LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). And along with Pt. Pertamina, LPG kits were distributed free of cost to the masses. This step towards progress was applauded by one and all. Using LPG for cooking purposes instead of kerosene or wood was cheaper and environment friendly too. These kits consisted of a three liter gas cylinder, a hose and a regulator. All was was well, until somebody thought of manufacturing fake cylinders, hoses and regulators. The manufacturers may have found a lucrative business but at the cost of human life.
These cylinders, hoses and regulators have to bear the SNI stamp to guarantee safety and quality. But investigations reveal it is difficult to differentiate between a fake and original certificate. It might also be a possibility that an original stamp was used on a fake commodity.
As investigations proceed, people fear to turn on their stove for the fear of another blast. Living dangerously has indeed got a new meaning.
