Toshiba, the Japanese electronics firm has decided for Indonesia as its regional production hub for its liquid crystal display (LCD) television sets. A Vietnamese factory has been relocated to Indonesia already, a local media reported earlier.
“Indonesia will be the only production base for Toshiba LCD TV in Asia and Oceania,” said President Director PT Toshiba Consumer Product Indonesia (TCPI), Yuzo Tsuchiya in an interview with the Jakarta Post.
The director further said that the relocation of Toshiba’s factory from Vietnam to Indonesia was expected to extend the monthly LCD production by over 50 percent to 100,000 units in 2010. The product would be marketed in the Asian region, he said.
The company would increase the number of employees from 750 to 1,200. Toshiba already invested 156,6 million US$ in Indonesia since it started here in 1995. The Indonesian Industry Minister MS Hidayat highlighted that Toshiba planned to add 35 million U.S. dollars investment in Indonesia.
